The EMBO Workshop “Muscle Development, Maintenance & Pathology: In Vitro Models to Physiology” is a leading international scientific event in Europe dedicated to the latest breakthroughs in muscle research. Bringing together world-renowned experts, early-career researchers, and clinicians, this five-day workshop provides a unique platform to explore cutting-edge discoveries in skeletal muscle biology, from fundamental mechanisms to translational applications.
The workshop’s central aim is to advance our understanding of skeletal muscle function in health and disease, spanning molecular, cellular, tissue, and whole-organism levels. Recent research has revealed that skeletal muscle is far more than a system for locomotion: it plays a critical role in metabolism, systemic homeostasis, and inter-organ communication. Yet many of the underlying biological mechanisms remain poorly understood. The scientific programme features thematic sessions covering embryonic and postnatal myogenesis, stem and progenitor cells, muscle homeostasis and adaptation, regeneration following acute and chronic injury, inflammatory and metabolic mechanisms, ageing, and neuromuscular diseases.
